Lagging.

Ok so I’ve been lagging. Big time. I had a lot more energy with my first pregnancy. This one has me so drained. Maybe it’s that this time around there’s a rambunctious 4 year old in the picture. Maybe.

So, anyway, this rambunctious 4 year old actually just turned 4 on Valentine’s Day. We had a party for her the weekend of. Why is it so draining? Again, I’ll blame my pregnancy. Normally party planning gets me excited. This time I was completely over it. I had all these plans to make a pretty Rapunzel doll cake. Saved a bunch of pins on Pinterest. We ended up buying a cake.

Of course the small gathering swole up as guests brought guests and I became to feel very claustrophobic in my home. I couldn’t wait for it to just be over.

I was proud of my decor though. It was princessy and dainty. I made traditional cheese paste sandwiches in yellow and pink which I cut into hearts (she’s a Valentine’s baby, after all). I did manage to make a big batch of mini cupcakes which I simply decorated with a dollop of icing and pretty heart sprinkles. They were a hit. We had popcorn and ring pops. The kids loved it all.

I decided to go the Trini route for food. We had curried chicken, curried channa (chickpeas) with aloo (potatoes), 2 kinds of roti, jerked and bbq wings, and a friend of mines made chow mein (Guyanese noodles with veggies). It was way too much work. Now I see why people just order pizzas. Haha.

I was absolutely exhausted by the end of the night. We dealt with too many guests, a huge house fire 2 houses down which left our guests stuck in the house and incoming guests stuck on the road unable to enter our block, and a snowstorm. It was an eventful day.

But, the child was happy. She had a ball and felt special on her day. That’s all that matters, right?

Til next time, folks. Mommy chronicles continue.
